Existing Kaspersky customers can receive updates until September 29, 2024. After this date, the company will no longer be able to provide antivirus signature updates due to the ban imposed by the U.S. government over national security concerns.
Kaspersky has implemented significant transparency measures, including opening Transparency Centers, offering code reviews, and providing information on its products and services to external evaluation in a secure environment. The company has also undertaken third-party assessments to verify the integrity of its solutions and processes, such as completing the Service Organization Control for Service Organizations (SOC 2) Type 2 audit and attaining ISO27001 certification for its data services.
The U.S. government previously banned Kaspersky in 2017 due to concerns over the company's ties to the Russian government and the potential for Moscow to exploit its software for espionage or sabotage. The ban was imposed across all government agencies to mitigate risks to national security.
