The OMF South will include facilities for light rail vehicles such as storage, inspections, maintenance and repair, interior vehicle cleaning, and exterior washing. Additionally, the facility will receive, test, and commission new LRVs for the entire Link light rail system. It will also provide administrative and operational functions, serving as a report base for operators.
The OMF South location in Federal Way will displace a church, a school, two daycares, nearly 100 residents, and 11 businesses, according to the project's final Environmental Impact Statement.
The estimated completion date for the Operations and Maintenance Facility (OMF) South is between 2032 and 2037, depending on the alternative selected to be built. However, Sound Transit is pursuing measures to advance the scheduled opening to as early as 2030. If the Midway Landfill alternative is selected, the opening date would be between 2035 and 2037.
